I like your comment under reason number 1 - "You might want to avoid large portions of Scripture while you're at it. They're also deeply disturbing and full of ugly thoughts." I have met many fellow Christians who won't read certain parts of Scripture for this very reason!
But I would have say that, while I fall under the 3rd category - I was disturbed and would describe some scenes as "very rough", it's not for the reasons you states - I do not fear death, nor even violence. My husband has been in Special Forces for 24 years-I have been confronted with many possibilities of death and horrible violence my entire adult life - things that have happened to my husband, stories, pictures, things my husband has had to do for our country... For me, it's the fact that reading stories becomes very personal to me - I feel as though I'm in the story- and I therefore want to jump in and help/save the person, in this case the children and the main characters. And since I can't do that, it leads me feeling disturbed and frustrated, but not afraid. Not at all. It's the fact that your stories "get inside" me and affect me profoundly that I feel these emotions.

Hello Mr.Dekker. I'd just like to shout out my endorsement to all the books I have read from you so far. With Thr3e, you very well became my favorite author. Boneman's Daughters has only made me an even bigger fan. Thanks for your wonderful books, and if you read this I might have a book idea for you.

Sometimes we search for "those who suffer" so we can Take up the hammer and crush" "the serpent who causes the suffering" and Sometimes God thrusts it in front of his believers. Either time is when I can best feel Gods power as his tool. Thank You for the reminder. It's time for us to seek the cruching opportunities.

Also, thank you for your books. I started with Blink and have not missed a book since or previous. (except Bonemans Daughters a situation that will be rectified as soon as I get off of work.) The biggest problem is the wate between books. What I Love about EVERY book is you ALWAYS challenge me, ALWAYS make me think and NEVER tell me what to think. To me this is the differance between someone to tells story and a True Artist. Thank You for using your gift to glorifie God!

your books really opened my eyes to the faith that was not really there and then was after i was done reading them. I started with Showdown, i only got it because my neighbor was selling books for her christian school, and i was hooked. I had my brothers read it and then my best friend. I have all but maybe seven of your books but i plan on buying the rest this summer. Your work really opens my eyes and you should keep on writing. Really for the people who need to see what they are missing in their faith.
PS my pastor says it is kind of crazy to have a christian horror book but i told him it was the best christian book i have ever read.

I'm fifteen and I've been reading your books for a while, and I absolutely love them. I know about a million and six people have said that so far, but it's true for me, too.

I also consider myself a writer :)

When I used to think of "Christian fiction," I'd picture paperbacks with young women standing in front of a prairie scene with a bonnet and a sad smile on their face. I didn't want to write that. I wanted to write something intense and exciting that glorifies God all at the same time.

Thanks for proving that it can be done :D

Mr. Dekker,

Saying I love your work seems like saying so little. The truth is your books reminded of what I should be fighting for as a Christian.

I was saved as a young child. My parents are home missionaries and run a youth camp. So my life has been spent hearing the Sunday school stories and I could recite memory verses with best of them. However, as I started college, I picked up Black. After finishing the circle trilogy, I read Three and loved it. I now own all of your books I can find. God has gifted you with the ability to not only make the blind world see, but to reawaken those of us that have fallen asleep and complacent.

I thank you for that and am looking forward to beginning Boneman soon.

Ted,
I love your books. I think your scientific projection of response to your book is accurate. I look forward to reading this book. I hope the violence "offends me" as I don't want to be a person who is "desensitized" to the truth that violence is ugly and sin disgusts the heart of the Father.

However I am also hoping that this will be a book that goes deeper than books of the past. I'm not talking about topics/themes. You pick some of the grandest themes I know.

I'm simply hoping for more character development, for more world painting and for more intelligent and inner turmoil. Your "Martyr Song Series" I think has exemplified the quality of writing that the world needs from Christians.

Since then you have continued to tell great stories that would make great movies or be good on TV, but I'm still waiting for more books like those, that have a literary quality that will keep me coming back to them for decades, using them in teaching settings and being inspired by them to write myself.

I hope Boneman's daughter goes that deep. I have no doubt that the ride will be intense. But who remembers a carnival ride a week later? Hurricanes and earthquakes become milestones of our personal narratives.

Dear Ted, my favorite author, please give us an earthquake!
